I wish I was CHRISTIAN again!

A strange title indeed based on one of my all time favorite commercials from back in 2013. It was a commercial for AT&T wireless where a man in a suit is sitting at a table asking a group of little kids what is better FASTER or SLOWER? They all agree faster is better.

One little girl explains faster is better or else you might be bitten by a werewolf and then you will say.. wawawawawawa.. which means I wish I was human again! The man in the suit stammers.. "what?"

I have similar state of mind with this world's challenges, distractions, and 'nonsense logic'. Our society claims gender is a social construct, men (called birthing persons) can have babies, and white baby boys are born racist.

To all this nonsense and more like the guy in the AT&T commercial I stammer .. "What?"

My other response to this world gone wrong is to become caught (being too slow) frustrated, discouraged, brooding with a dash of anger. It's enough to transform a likeable guy like me into that little girl in the AT&T commercial in exasperation moaning.. "wawawawawawa.. I wish I was CHRISTIAN again."

So where should we turn in this world gone mad? The answer is in God's Word.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things. Phil 4:8

..but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, 1 Pe 3:15

I can do all things through him who strengthens me. Phil 4:13

Finally,

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Eph 6:11-12

These are just four (of countless) scriptures to help us not just endure this world wishing you were/felt Christian again, but become boldly effective for Jesus.

May God bless each of you as believers with a the peace that passes all understanding in a world that often rages outside of God's will.

I wish folks who claim they are CHRISTIAN started acting like they were instead of either pounding on their chests and proclaiming they are while not emulating Christ or following His example, or trying to ram their version of Christianity down the throats of EVERYone. Even Christ and his disciples didn't do that.

Jesus was a radical in his day, preaching that everyone should practice forgiveness (what a radical concept in an eye-for-an-eye society!) and that they should take take the log out of their own eye before attempting to remove a speck from the eye of another. Behaving in a way to take care of others is WJWD.

Taking advantage of the medical advances that God has given us (miraculous vaccine technology), doing the least verifiably helpful action (wearing a mask...again or continuing or starting for heaven's sake!) Even they knew in the days of the black plague that a face covering (cloth, washable) helped stem the transmission. He's giving us a miracle--why would anyone reject it?

Doing these and not engaging in cruelty (especially to fellow humans!) would better exhibit actual Christian behavior. So many are not using the brain that God gave them (He did, didn't He?), or are too ready to cling to a 1950s "idealized" version of "out" country that was never actually real nor that "ideal"...or actually that way. Good for whom? Ignorance and fear are no excuse to treat you neighbor with anything less than love and compassion.

I've noticed that t the bad behavior being labeled "Christian" by those who are thumping on their chests, has been driving others away from, not converting them to real Christianity. Love thy neighbor as thyself. No man is an island unto himself and shouldn't act like they are. Personal responsibility is good, but all of us have baggage we carry around. Christ offers to carry our load for us! Gives us a chance to heal and grow and understand and LOVE our fellow humans.

Christ was a radical. It takes a lot to follow in his footsteps, to actually admit we are flawed individuals and need His Forgiveness. May His Love and Blessings be upon you, Jeff. We are all human. Saying that white males are all one way is no better than the racism exhibited by any other instance of grouping everyone with certain characteristics and treating them all as anything other than the individuals they are.

Fearing "otherness" is not Christian behavior. Christ didn't advocate we all run out and engage in adultery when he protected the adulteress. He wanted us to love and forgive others, despite their fallen behaviors. We should mind our own business and attempt to be more like Jesus instead of condemning others around us. We need to work toward peace, loving our neighbors.

In 1953's the American Red Cross could not (for societal reasons) label collected blood as "human blood", even though they knew there wasn't anything different based on how much pigment or hair type (or anything else) the donor had. The 1950s weren't "ideal". Humans were ignorant and unloving toward other humans. We still are, but then we are human. (Both sides of the current polarized divide have logs in their eyes.)
