The other side of the Red Sea
Exodus 15 Begins with Moses and the children of Israel on the other side of the Red Sea with Egypt in their rearview mirror. FREE AT LAST! FREE AT LAST!
It was a time when Moses and Miriam sang.
“Sing to the Lord,
For He has triumphed gloriously!
The horse and its rider
He has been thrown into the sea!”
It was a chart-topper, for sure.

Bitter Waters Ex 15:22 But after 3 days in the wilderness, they found themselves without water until they came to Marah.
But the water at Marah was bitter until the Lord showed Moses a tree to cast into the water, making it sweet.
Q. If a Miracle Happens Long Ago. Did it really happen?
Much like the saying.. if a tree falls in the forest and no one is there, does it still make a sound?
Though Israel was delivered from slavery via the miraculous parting of the Red Sea, we now see the people already prone to mumble and reminisce over those good old days in Egypt when they were... SLAVES? ... Ungrateful much?

Now, fast forward about 3400 years, we have science, archeology, and excellent apologetics screaming THERE MUST A GOD. But the very existence of a creator is denied by scientists, scholars, and secular humanists hell-bent literally on their self-importance. They would deny the miracle of the parting of the Red Sea even if they were fishing on the Red Sea as it parted.
Having doubts and not understanding is part of the human condition, but TO BELIEVE THERE IS NOT A GOD?
DENIAL is not just a river in EGYPT; it is the SECULAR mindset of our world today.
So onward and forward, we travel with the newly FREE STATE of ISRAEL.
The Wilderness Family of God
This newly freed, hungry nation of Israel's stomachs collectively growled as all their paper bag lunches with PB&J sandwiches[, potato chips, and Oreo cookies from when they left Egypt were depleted. And there were no near fast food drive-thru windows capable of handling 600,000 Jews. So they cried out to Moses. WE'RE HUNGRY LET'S GO BACK TO EGYPT!
In response, God sends

The Amalekites Defeated
A short time later, there was a battle with the Amalekites. The Israelites were attacked, and in response, Moses stood on top of the hill with the staff of God in his hands raised as they fought the Amalekites.
The untold BETTING SCANDAL?
The Israelites were winning as long as Moses held up his hands, but the Amalekites prevailed whenever he lowered his hands. So, as Moses’ hands grew tired, they put a stone under him, and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset, and so Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword. WHEW! Ex 17:8-16
In Exodus 18, Jethro (Moses' father-in-law) comes to visit Moses and advises him to appoint good men to relieve the burden of governing all the people. This job is just too much for one man.
Israel at Mt. Sinai
About 3 months after leaving Egypt, Israel camped in the Sinai wilderness near Mt. Sinai. Here, Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from Mount Sinai, which was covered with smoke because the LORD descended on it in fire. The smoke billowed up from it like a furnace, and the whole mountain trembled violently.

The smoke billowed up from it like a furnace, and the whole mountain trembled violently.
When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai. The cloud covered the mountain for six days, and on the seventh day, the LORD called to Moses from within the cloud. To the Israelites, the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain. Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights. ..Ex 19

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS Ex 20
And God spoke all these words,
Ten timeless and profound rules for a better life and a better society.
In Exodus 20-27, the Lord spoke to Moses about more guidelines for the nation of Israel to obey.
And God spoke all these words,
- “You shall have NO OTHER GODS

- “You shall not take the LORD'S NAME in vain
- “Remember the SABBATH by keeping it holy.
- “Honor your FATHER & MOTHER
- “You shall not MURDER.
- “You shall not commit ADULTERY.
- “You shall not STEAL.
- “You shall not bear FALSE WITNESS
- “You shall not COVET

The Priestly Garments
Exodus 28 details the holy garments to be fashioned for Aaron and Aaron’s sons: Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. They were priestly fashion statements from head to toe, including Holy Linen undergarments. No Hanes, no Fruit of the Loom, and certainly NO GOING COMMANDO!
Aaron and his sons must wear them whenever they enter the tent of meeting or approach the altar to minister in the Holy Place so that they will not incur guilt and die.

Exodus 32:1-6, The Golden Calf
After a long time, the people observed Moses was not coming down from the mountain, so they said to Aaron, “Make us gods who will go before us since Moses brought us out of Egypt, but we don’t know what happened to him.”
So Aaron makes an idol cast in the shape of a calf from the jewelry collected from the people.
Aaron then builds an altar in front and announces, “Tomorrow there will be a festival to the LORD.” So, the next day, the people rose early, sacrificed burnt offerings, and presented fellowship offerings. Afterward, they sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.
What I find strange is the Bible does not note anyone, including Aaron, saying... "Hey, this is a really DUMB IDEA." Of course, if you watch the evening news, today's society is just as lazy and failing to honor God.

In Exodus 32:7, the LORD tells Moses, “Go down, your people have become corrupt. They have made themselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf, bowed down to it, and sacrificed to it.
They are a stiff-necked people. Now leave me alone so that my anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them. Then I will make you into a great nation.”
But Moses said, “Why should your anger burn against your people, whom you brought out of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand? Why should the Egyptians say, ‘It was with evil intent that he brought them out, to kill them in the mountains and to wipe them off the face of the earth’? Turn from your fierce anger; relent, and do not bring disaster on your people.
Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, to whom you swore by your own self: ‘I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky, and I will give your descendants all this land I promised them, and it will be their inheritance forever.’”
Then the LORD relented and did not bring the disaster he had threatened on his people.
Note: I don't believe Moses convinced God not to destroy the rebellious nation of Israel, but these verses show how God included Moses in the process of mercy, even to those so undeserving. This is a lesson that is true for our lives today. We should pray for those who have fallen far from God. Pray for revival and restoration rather than judgment.

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
Moses turned and went down the mountain with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands. They were inscribed on both sides; front and back tablets were the work of God; the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tablets. When Joshua heard the noise of the people shouting, he said to Moses, “There is the sound of war in the camp.” Moses replied: “It is not the sound of victory; it is not the sound of defeat; it is the sound of singing that I hear.”

When Moses approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, his anger burned, and he threw the tablets out of his hands, breaking them to pieces at the foot of the mountain.

And he took the calf the people had made and burned it in the fire; then he ground it to powder, scattered it on the water, and made the Israelites drink it Ex 32:20

Moses and the Glory of the LORD
Moses told the LORD, “You have been telling me, ‘Lead these people,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have found favor with me.’ If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.” The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.16 How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the earth?”
And the LORD said to Moses, “I will do the very thing you have asked because I am pleased with you and know you by name.”

The Radiant Face of Moses
When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands, he was unaware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the LORD. When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him. But Moses called to them, so Aaron and all the community leaders came back to him, and he spoke to them. Afterward, all the Israelites came near him, and he gave them all the commands the LORD had given him on Mount Sinai.
