Screen Time, Big Time

Q. Did the Apostle Paul prophetically know that the amount of time the typical American spends on a device in our 24/7 electronic society would be a problem? Between our iPhones, laptops, smartwatches, and 24/7 streaming Big-Screen TVs, too many of us are 'screen-timed up.'

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, because of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world (screen time), but be transformed by the renewing of your mind (in God's Word & Prayer). Then you can test and approve God’s will—his good, pleasing, and perfect will. Romans 12:1-2

Ok, maybe my cartoons are not the literal illustrated fulfillment of 'Paul's Excess Screen Time' prophesy, but I think you get my point.

I confess I am on my devices a bit too much daily. I am on my phone or my laptop or am watching YouTube videos, sports, or the dreaded 24/7 news during an ELECTION YEAR. Lord, have mercy on my soul.

Just a friendly reminder: everything, including your SCREEN TIME, should be in moderation.

Let me leave you with this further blessing from the Apostle Paul and... me.
5 Let your moderation (OF SCREEN TIME) be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be careful with nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:5-7

Technology is from the DEVIL!

This is the story of my ongoing love/hate relationship with TECHNOLOGY. Technical difficulties beyond our control can land a person in the BERMUDA TRIANGLE of TECHNOLOGY…

This is a land where

my keyboard keys stick because crumbs as my laptop OFTEN doubles as a breakfast tray,
my smartphone PLAYS DUMB,
my bluetooth has the blues and does not understand me,
my network is moody, dare I say down and so my WI-FI connections goes POOF! (poof is a technical term)

and in response harsh 'protestant' language is mumbled in the direction of a myriad of inanimate technologies.

I know from recent history Technology issues have tested the existence of any spiritual fruit in my life. My patience and self control were compromised by lost passwords, dropped connections, corrupted programs needing to be reinstalled, and the ever present threat of Spyware & Malware.

So what can I do? CALL SUPPORT! Of course there are those technical support calls that start by navigating through a labyrinth of 'press 1 for English, press 2 Spanish, 3 Piglatin' like choicesI and after a couple disconnects, followed by 35 minutes on hold (which includes the repeated recorded message "your call is very important to us, and will be answered in the order it was received and when we FEEL LIKE IT".

I am then connected to a support center located 1/2 way around the world In New Delhi by a person whose English is barely their second language going through their list of scripted responses.

Their confusing responses spoken with strong accents that are difficult for me to understand (my problem not theirs) but it only pushes my button until 'maybe' I become sarcastic with words outside of previously mentioned Fruit of God's Spirit .. ie peace, patience, self-control but included in the above mentioned 'harsh protestant' language.

OK, while the above are very 'real' (lol) technology issues are maybe true .. I plan to enjoy the blessings of technology as a tool for sharing God's Truth and for building His church.

I love my online Bible resources, devotionals, worship music, and books that are just a click away.
I love the blogs and podcasts of Christians where apologetics, evangelism, the caring for and standing strong in our secular world is shared.
and If I miss church, I can stream it at home.. and during this time of Covid-19 this has been priceless.

Have a great day blessed by God in great ways, and blessed not cursed by technology. It may cause us angst, but it in reality is also an amazing tool God has provided for us. Technology can put us on instant paths of light or darkness. This is a world of great blessing, and great evil where the darkness of pornography exists. PRAYERFULLY CHOOSE WISELY.. stay in the Light.

No matter your GEEK-STATUS let's prayerfully be faithful (up to 5g or maybe 1 Gig speed) in our techie moments just like all other aspects of life.
