Matthew 5:13-15
13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
Matthew 5:13–16 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Jesus calls us to be salt — preserving what is good — and light — exposing truth and guiding others — not ostriches with heads buried in the sand. When the church stays silent or overly "peaceful" in the face of cultural pressures, it risks losing its distinct flavor and brightness, becoming ineffective like salt that’s lost its saltiness or a lamp hidden under a bowl.
The cartoon pokes fun at that temptation: shouting “Jesus loves you” while avoiding hard truths, hoping everyone just goes away. But real mentorship from Christ means standing firm on the hill, shining clearly, and preserving righteousness — even when it's uncomfortable.
The good news? We don’t do this in our own strength. God equips us to be salty and bright for His glory. How do you see yourself living out “salt and light” in today’s world? Share a practical way or verse that helps you stay visible and flavorful — let’s encourage one another! ✨🧂
