The First shall be Last and the Last First - but not in Track
Winners & Losers – Matthew 20:16
Jesus said: "The first shall be last, and the last first."
But in a foot race? Nope! The guy who crosses LAST is NOT winning... unless he's running in God's Kingdom.
This cartoon ribs the difference: track has clear finish lines and winners, but God's economy flips everything—humility, service, and grace put the "last" first.
Laugh at the coach's confusion, then remember: we're not racing for earthly medals. We're running for an eternal prize!
Matthew 20:16 The first shall be last, and the last first. Words of wisdom for life, but not if you are on the track team. Just sayin’
The First Shall Be Last... But Not in Track
He finished LAST—why is he so happy? "WOO-HOO... I WON!"
The coach is baffled, but the runner's celebrating like he just took gold. Classic track logic: first across the line wins.
But Jesus flips the script in Matthew 20:16: "So the last will be first, and the first last." In the parable of the vineyard workers, those hired last got the same pay as the early birds—God's grace doesn't play by human rules.
Try applying this Kingdom truth to a 100-meter dash. On the track, last is last. In God's Kingdom, the humble, the servant, the latecomer can hear "Well done."
Run your race with endurance (Hebrews 12:1), but remember: the finish line isn't always who gets there first.
