Five Loaves and Two Fish… Now What?
In the Feeding of the 5,000, the major news networks would have reported it as a scandal: “Radical Rabbi Jesus of Nazareth strands 5,000 to starve, and takes five loaves and two fish from a child.”
But the real story is much more powerful.
Jesus didn’t ask us to feed the 5,000. He simply asked us to bring Him our five loaves and two fish.
This quote — most commonly attributed to Corrie ten Boom — reminds us that God doesn’t ask us to do the impossible. He simply asks us to bring Him what we have (no matter how small), and He will do the rest.
This is a powerful message for every believer: We are often persuaded by culture that greatness, power, numbers, and personal accomplishment are how we are measured. But that is not the message of God’s Word. Especially in the Gospels — where faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains, where the dead are raised, and 5,000 are fed with five loaves and two fish.
Lord, help me to be faithful in the big and small. I am called to be faithful in the little things, and to put my trust in the One who calms the seas, feeds the 5,000, heals the sick, and forgives the unforgivable.
