He is Risen! - Mic Drop
That first Easter Sunday was the perfect conclusion to the first Holy Week.
It began with Jesus' triumphant entry- crowds having branches, and shouting “Hosanna!” Jesus rode while knowing full well where the week was headed.
Jesus taught in the Temple and flipped over the merchant tables.
He shared the Last Supper with His disciples, giving the gift of communion to remember Him by.
That same night, He prayed in agony in Gethsemane, surrendering completely with the words “Not my will, but your will be done.”
Then came the arrest, unfair trials, the mocking, the scourging, and
On Good Friday, the One who had never sinned became the perfect sacrifice for ours.
And then… silence on Holy Saturday
BUT early on Easter morning, everything changed. The stone rolled away, and the Tomb was empty.
But on that first Easter morning, the stone was rolled away, the tomb was empty, and two women who came to visit the tomb were greeted by angels with the words… “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!” Luke 24:5-6.
Mary Magdalene witnessed the empty tomb (John 20:1) and then ran to tell Peter and John (John 20: 2)
Peter and John, who raced to the tomb, found that it was empty. (John 3-10)
Mary stays behind weeping, then encounters two angels, then Jesus (John 20:11-18)
Jesus appears to his disciples (John 20:19-23)
and to Thomas (John 20:24:29)
He walked unrecognized with two friends on the road to Emmaus until He broke bread with them — and in that moment their eyes were opened. (Luke 24:13-35)
DEATH was defeated! Hope had won!
The same Jesus who surrendered his will in the garden rose from the grave.
And because He lives, everything is different.
He is risen.
Mic drop.
Blessings,
Jeff (because He lives, I can face tomorrow) Larson
