The Missing the Bus Parable

School Cartoon of boy missing the school bus

The Kingdom of God is like

A boy missing his bus. He will be late, so he will be cast into detention with the other rule-breakers.

As I mentioned before, I drove a school bus for about six years. Missing the bus — or nearly missing it — was an ongoing challenge from preschool to high school. I was pretty fair with my wait times. Then I’d close the doors and start rolling to the next stop… until a house door flew open and a student came out on a full sprint. Of course I would wait. Potential detention averted for another day.

Jesus told stories about people who were ready and people who were not. A missed bus is a small picture of a bigger habit: waiting too long, then sprinting, then wondering why the door already closed.

Moral of the story? Be prepared. Don’t be left behind.
