The Mighty Casey had struck out.
Not because he lacked strength. Not because he lacked skill. But because he trusted in himself alone.
It is much like when we as Christians become proud and hold up our image, believing we are something special. In Galatians, Paul chastises the church for teaching Jesus+ — not the simple Gospel message, but the Gospel plus focus on ego, attendance, or ritual & rule following, or Jesus plus secondary issues.
If we do not focus on Christ alone and on loving God and others, then we will eventually strike out. Casey was proud, believing he alone would save the day, but he struck out. Don’t be like Casey.
