37 All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.

Jesus kept it simple:

Let your yes be yes, and your no be no. No need for fancy explanations, half-truths, or dancing around the question.

In this cartoon, a wife asks the classic loaded question: “Be honest… are these pants too tight? How do I look?” Husband’s honest answer: “Like a denim wood tick.” At least he kept that answer IN HIS HEAD and not BEYOND HIS LIPS.

The point? Honesty doesn’t have to be mean, but it does need to be clear. God values truthfulness — even when the question is risky, and the pants are tight. Next time you’re tempted to soften, exaggerate, or dodge — remember Jesus’ words: Keep it yes or no. It’s freeing.
