NOBODY WANTED… See God if interested

How does my resume look? 

  • Am I qualified as a NOBODY? 

  • Can God really use this NOBODY? 

  • What if my NOBODY self-esteem in a ‘Monday-Friday-RUT’, where my abilities and influence are small?

OH SURE, I attend church most every Sunday, and my wife and I host a Small Group bible study, but what difference does any of that really make? 

So, hello…

My name is Jeff, a NOBODY.

MY RESUME

  • As a young man, I was a logger in rural Wisconsin until I …

  • Moved to the big city, where I was a programmer/analyst, and then…

  • I managed sports officials for High Schools and Area Youth Tournaments, and now…

  • I have coasted into retirement supplemented by a couple of part-time jobs


    —TRULY, the resume of a hard-working or hardly-working     NOBODY

​SIDE NOTE 1:

One summer, while between jobs, I was a 40+ year old PAPER BOY/MAN delivering the daily newspaper way before everyone just browsed the news on Hi-Tech Smartphones.   

SIDE NOTE 2: Throughout my years in the workforce, I stayed busy CARTOONING. It has not been a cash cow for me, but it is what I do.

SIDE NOTE 3: You know what’s worse than being a NOBODY? … BEING DEAD Ecclesiastes 9:4

I was challenged by this truth when I received a letter from my bank, addressed to Jeffrey DEAD Larson instead of Jeffrey DEAN Larson. 

​I am not sure if that was an innocent typo or a snarky comment from their collections department, so I did a quick check of my pulse, and Good News.

I WAS NOT DEAD.

​Good News? I am not dead. 

Bad News? I am still NOBODY!

So I turn to God's Word for inspiration and am quickly reminded of God’s Mighty NOBODIES.


BIBLE NOBODIES

  • MOSES was an exiled former Prince of Egypt, who was called by God from the Burning Bush to Free God’s People.

  • ABRAHAM was pulled from a retirement home by God’s Call to become the FATHER OF A NATION

  • KING DAVID was a shepherd boy, killed Goliath, and was called a man after God’s own heart.  

  • THE APOSTLE PAUL persecuted Christians, until God persuaded him to join the A Team as a Missionary.

​By God using these very flawed men to serve him in great ways, it demonstrates that it's always about God's message, not the messenger... so maybe there is hope for us NOBODIES not included in the pages of God’s Word.

NOBODIES for JESUS..  sounds more like a Christian support group than a battle cry to serve God.  Can't you hear us?

WHO ARE WE? nobody… 
LOUDER.. ahem, Nobody
THE MIGHTY MIGHTY.. ​Nobodies?

WHO AM I without God anyway?  BUT… an equally good question is.. 

WHO AM I WITH GOD?  What is possible? - Matthew 19:26

This is not to say God will use me to part any Red Seas, raise the dead, or become the Billy Graham of Christian Cartoons...  but


I BELIEVE… that if we are willing, God can and does use ordinary people for His Glory!

​FINAL NOTE: God has been reminding me lately of what I often forget… THIS LIFE IS NOT ABOUT ME.  Life is about selflessly loving God with all my heart, soul, and mind, and caring for others.

I AM CALLED TO BE FAITHFUL IN THE MOMENTS presented to me each day, and then God can and will use me in little subtle ways for sure, and who knows maybe in big ways.  I AM SURE THERE IS A SEA THAT NEEDS PARTING SOMEWHERE, or… maybe just opening a door for someone with their hands full.

May God bless and use each of us as we are faithful to Him in ways that are always beyond our dreams and all that God intends.
