Bible Dust and Paper Cuts
THE WORD OF GOD is sharper than a two-edged sword…
it penetrates even to the soul and spirit, joint and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12
And, Beware of Paper Cuts —>
I love Hebrews 4:12. It is one of many verses that express the depth and power of God’s Word beyond the typed ink on a flat white paper page in my Bible. The truths found here are far-reaching and, in context, an incredible tapestry of wisdom, love, and hope that is not found in any other book.
With this being said, let me share a few more powerful scriptures regarding God’s Word we should all consider. After reading these verses, it should be followed by a Mic-Drop moment. Anything I add after these verses will be noise by comparison…. but I am sure I will add something.
So here we go.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. Psalm 119:105
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
James 1:22
The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.
Isaiah 40:8“Heaven and Earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.”
Matthew 24:35
He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” Luke 11:28
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4
BUT.. Why do we spend so little time reading, studying, or fully living the truths taught in God's word?
If we used the Sword analogy of Hebrews 4:12, many of us would be wielding a plastic picnic knife or a spork by comparison.
Bible Illiterate, or Bible Redacting… and more are tricks of the Devil messing with our cluttered and distracted minds, telling us we are too busy.
Of course, my time on social media or watching TV debunks my ‘too busy excuse’.
I will confess .. the Bible includes more than its fair share of arduous facts, BUT it is much more than Levitical Law trivia. And, it is NOT a collection of fairy tales and/or folklore.
Our Bibles contain the timeless truths of God to live by and chronicle the history of His providence for mankind.
By reading our Bibles, we can begin to grasp His greatness, love, and Amazing Grace for mankind, from the Garden through today.
If you are guilty of underachieving Bible reader moments, then…
there is no better time to dust off your Bible and start a Bible Reading Resolution now.
Don't wait for the New Year to start.
Note: Some time is better than NO time. Meaning 5 minutes is better than ZERO minutes, and I believe God will bless our efforts to know and trust Him better in ways that are BEYOND OUR DREAMS.
May God find us faithfully seeking Him with His Word. May this knowledge of God unite us, not divide us. And may we experience His love for us and, in return, share His Word with this angry, hurting world with uncompromising truth and always with kindness..
Blessings
Jeff
