What Happens in Sodom… Genesis 19

Christian cartoon of two weathered signs in the desert:

Genesis 19:24-25

Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven;

And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.

Two signs. One locked box. No letters inside.

That is the joke, and it is also the warning. Genesis 19 is not a travel brochure. It is a city that would not be corrected. The welcome sign treats darkness like a weekend. The suggestion box sits there for a better Sodom — empty, padlocked, unused.

Scripture does not wink at this chapter. Lot gets out. The cities do not. “What happens here stays here” is a slogan, not a covering. God sees it. God judges it. Mercy still makes a way out for those who will leave.

We still build boxes we never use. We still put a slogan on sin with a wink and hope it stays put. It doesn’t.

What “suggestion” would you have dropped in that box — for a city, or for your own heart? Tell us below.
