Christian Service, Not "Serve Us" – 1 Corinthians 12:4–5
1 Corinthians 12:4-5
4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.
1 Corinthians 12:4-5 “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.”
Paul reminds the Corinthian church (and us): the body of Christ thrives when everyone uses their gifts to SERVE, not when we sit back expecting others to SERVE US.
In the cartoon, Harold’s friend shuts down the misunderstanding with a classic line: “NO Harold! Pastor said we should be involved in CHRISTIAN SERVICE… not have CHRISTIANS SERVE US!” It’s funny because it’s so true — we’ve all been tempted to treat church like a restaurant instead of a family on mission.
The beauty of God’s design is that we all have different gifts, different services, all for one Spirit, one Lord. When we all serve (in big ways or small), the whole body grows stronger.
