The Light Shines, Shadows Run

John 1:5

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

The cartoon puts a face on that verse. The light bulb is on. The darkness is not charging the light—it’s scrambling away from it, hands up, eyes wide, yelling “Noooo!!” as it slides toward the corner.

That’s not how darkness usually gets portrayed. We talk about it as strong, invasive, hard to fight. Here it looks more like something that simply cannot stay where the light is. It doesn’t win. It doesn’t even hold its ground. It just backs up.

That’s the quiet strength of the verse. The light doesn’t negotiate with the darkness or wait for it to leave. It shines, and the darkness has not overcome it. Not then. Not now. The bulb stays on.
