DELETE or just DON’T!

2 Timothy 2:23 (NIV) “Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels.”

Psalm 19:14 (NIV) “May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight,

Proverbs 17:28 (NIV)“Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongues.”

A good friend once told me he wished he could come up with one-line zingers on the spot. I said, “Yes, but you have friends.” An exaggeration — with some truth in it.

This is where the Holy Spirit comes in. The Holy Ghost tempers the urge for zingers. Firm, sometimes. Gentle, often. He is not trying to ruin the joke. In a still small voice, He says, “Jeff, not every reply should be a punchline.”

A man in our small-group Bible study once said the Holy Spirit is like the pilot light on the stove: a steady flame, and when needed, a blaze. After a pause, I added, “Yep, but if He goes out, we are just GASSY.”

So -DON’T BE LIKE JEFF- listen to that quiet guide. Be discerning in conversation. On social media, know where the Delete key is.
