Dinnertime Devotions & Dogs?

I have never actually read 2 Peter 2:22 as a family dinnertime devotion… but the dogs in our lives have given us plenty of memorable (and slightly traumatic) family moments.

One quiet Christmas Eve, with soft Christmas music playing and only the tree lights glowing while the kids slept, I looked over my wife’s shoulder and saw our dog in the shadowy hallway… deciding it was the perfect time to do #2. The Christmas mood was officially broken.

Another time, on a bright Minnesota January day, our dog was joyfully running through the snow tossing what looked like a red-and-white tennis ball in the air. It was only when I looked closer that I realized the “tennis ball” had bunny ears. That was no tennis ball.

Okay, so this post has completely left the devotion track and turned into a mild warning about dog ownership.

Still, the tradeoffs are worth it. Along with the occasional moment of pure chaos, you also get man’s best friend.

Note: I will try to be more ‘spiritual tomorrow’.

And if you’re able, please consider supporting The Back Pew as we keep sharing Clean Humor & God’s Truth — one cartoon at a time.
