Proverbs 26:11 does not blink: as a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his folly. 2 Peter 2:22 picks up the same picture again. Scripture is willing to be indelicate when the habit is.
The cartoon dog is every one of us who acts surprised at the same old mess. We know the puddle. We walk back anyway. Then we look at heaven with that face.
Grace is not pretending the vomit isn’t there. Grace is getting pulled away from it and staying away.
