Solomon looked at all his work, wealth, and wisdom and basically said, “I hate this. It’s like chasing the wind.”
Three thousand years later we still do it — only now some of us do it with radar, a GoPro, and a vehicle that can take a beating. Of course, chasing a tornado is more of an adrenaline rush than chasing the wind. It’s like chasing the wind after too many Red Bulls.
The joke writes itself. The wind never holds still. Neither do most of the things we chase that aren’t rooted in God.
“So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.” — Ecclesiastes 2:17
What are you still chasing that keeps blowing just out of reach?
I confess I like watching those storm-chaser shows. The power of nature when it gets a little angry is amazing. Then you remember these storms — and the whole universe — sit in the palm of God’s hand. He made all of it, from the cosmos down to the microscopic… and He loves each of us. Mic drop.
