Your will, or my will… be done?
Our Father who is in Heaven,
GREAT is your name... Your kingdom come, YOUR WILL be done ON EARTH as it is in Heaven.
Many of you know this is the start of the Lord's Prayer (Mt 6:9-13) and we should NOT gloss over this prayer introduction to get to the GIVE US TODAY OUR DAILY (me me me) BREAD part.
Of course, our God hears, cares, and answers prayers for our needs & well-being BUT...
Today, let’s focus on GOD’S WILL, not OUR WILL.
God's Will on Earth? So how is that working out?
The evening news (SHOW), never mentions or reports God or His will being celebrated.
In Washington, D.C., there is a lot of MY WILL BE DONE legislation in a 'swampy," "smarmy' and often pagan ways,
In the world of Social Media (Facebook, Twitter/X, etc.), censorship of Christians and traditional family values is often the norm and NOT God's will. and…
In our Churches, I find progressive Christians focused on social justice & CRT doctrines rather than sharing God's Timeless Word. This too is NOT God's will.
Antisemitism is growing even in the church where ‘replacement theology’ is accepted by more and more so-called Christians.
Islam and Sharia Law are growing throughout the West, and are in direct conflict with Christianity and tolerated as a form of religious freedom.
So now, let’s return to the LORD'S PRAYER. God, your will be done on Earth, starting with Jeff.
Throughout my life (I am 68 now), I have prayed, "Lord, show me your will for my life," many times. I pray this regarding big and small decisions, but I have come to realize that this prayer, "What is your will for my life?" can become me-centric.
Any of you who have followed my cartoons or my blogging know the ME-Monster is a recurring character in my life. And I do not think I am alone.
Prayers focusing on the right job, house, finding Mrs. Right/Larson, or even a car purchase, wanting God's can become my own little mini Prosperity Gospel prayer rather than 'THY WILL' pointing to God's kingdom (souls saved, and that others would see me as a Gospel testimony in the moments that make up my day.
The angst in my life and the meat of my prayers can often revolve around me, and not the angst of family and friends who do not know the Lord.
Here is another confession of sin in my life: Negative circumstances can affect me in a way that leaves me sullen and not a light for Christ. So I now pray when my testimony becomes tarnished. I pray for His Spirit to fill me, I thank Him for the promises found in His Word, and I give Him praise. And… I need to pray this often.. DAILY, maybe hourly.
"Lord, what is your will for my life going forward? How can I serve you? Lord help me NOT to bury my talents in the sand, but instead do my part so GOD'S WILL is done on Earth as it is in Heaven in whatever big or small ways God can use me. AMEN."
I write this hoping it does not take any of you 68 years to figure out God's will for you to serve Him. But if it does, 68 is not too late. Love God, Serve God where your will is God's will.
May God bless you all in this journey of discovering who you are intended to be in God's Plan and for HIS Kingdom on Earth.
