CATHOLICS v PROTESTANTS... The Royal Rumble Ramble 2025! While many of us 'good' Protestants contend Catholics present NOT the Gospel alone, but the Gospel PLUS Something else. We also differ on the role of Mary and the Pope, which are just a few discussions that Protestants and Catholics differ on.
BUT looking in the mirror, many of us 'good' protestants also differ in that it is not the Gospel of Salvation in Christ alone, but Christ and something else that our denomination weaves in. Gifts of the Spirit, Baptism, Giving/Prosperity...and the Gospel of JOHN CALVIN, while each may be true to some degree, they are presenting the Gospel as the Gospel plus something else.
Other Protestants redact and/or are illiterate regarding God's Word on topics like abortion, gay lifestyle, feminism, and have demoted the Gospel into a social engineering environmental cause that has little to do with the Gospel message of Salvation.
Protestants have been rightly stereotyped as Bumper Sticker theologians... we have catchy phrases, and attract the casual observer, but we sometimes lack reverence and depth. We are a Rock Concert and a Religious TED Talk.
We're good Protestants, and all you 'good' Catholics need to focus on God's two greatest commandments: to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and to love your neighbor as yourself. THEN our differences will appear trivial, even if they are in ways still important.
Also, I listen to many practicing Catholics, while I differ on many issues, I do hear them say salvation is in Christ alone. And their lives PROVE IT. The fact that these Catholics have works due to their faith is a better testimony of Christ than any Protestant who has faith, but there is no evidence of this faith in their lives, except their Sunday Church attendance.
So I pray each of us 'good' Protestants and 'good' Catholics be faithful to God's Word. Major on the majors and minor on the minors... all for God's Glory
