But no matter good or bad I am, getting into Heaven is about God's grace and never about my relative goodness. His grace is sufficient. 2 Corinthians 12:9
Whew!.. so being pretty good will be good enough.
- The Psalms are full of wonderful poetic words sharing God's care and love for those who follow him. The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want.. Psalms 23
- But also in Luke 23:39-43 there is the great story of grace where the thief of the cross repents and Jesus tells him today you will be with me in paradise. note: the thief was not such a pretty good guy.
- There is also the parable about the 5 o'clock worker in Matthew 20 where the owner of the vineyard rewards the workers who arrived at the end of the day the same as those who worked all day. Implying Heaven is the reward for those who follow God late in their lives as much as those who were Christians their whole lives. In both these examples.. God's Grace is big and far reaching. It is loving and just to ALL who believe.
So, when I reach the Pearly Gates there will be no entrance exam, and no grumpy Pearly Gates Keeper doing border patrol, simply God's grace and in redneck speak.. "if yer kin yer in."
note: This email is not a call for mediocrity, but only to state my goodness is tentative when compared to our perfect creator. This is all GREAT NEWS for all of you, for the thief on the cross, and Jeff in his office chair.
Blessings, Jeff (Heaven Bound in the Back Pew) Larson
