With
Palm Sunday being so significant.. I frequently return to tooning
DONKEYS for a source of humor. Very EE-ORE (misspelled) in their appearance,
and almost as much fun to laugh at
as the religious leaders of Jesus day.
Now I
spent a great deal of time on this next cartoon trying to capture the
world of Donkeys. A relatively slow moving world not to be confused with
Arabian Stallions, or modern day race horses. Donkeys are very functional
blue collar beasts that will never win the Kentucky Derby. And on top
of their appearance they make sounds that are like a goose with bronchitis.
I know people that LAUGH LIKE DONKEYS. Not cool!
So anyways..
if you have seen the Movie ‘On the Waterfront’ starring
Marlin Brando from 1954,
there is the famous part of the movie where Brando vents about a life
of regret, and what could
have been. "I COULD HAVE BEEN SOMEBODY, I COULD HAVE
BEEN A CONTENDER!..
INSTEAD OF A BUM!" Well this is the world of Marlin
the Donkey, and a life of regret recreated
in the toon titled ON THE STABLEFRONT.
Finally a few more toons in tribute to these featured BEASTS OF BURDENS.
They were
there at the birth of Jesus. And in
the Old Testament.. WAY BEFORE MR. ED.. they were in
the original LOOK WHO’S TALKING.
And then last but not least.. There was Doug the Donkey
who despite being the THE PALM SUNDAY
DONKEY had his own
regrets.
